The Land Transport Management (Time of Use Charging) Amendment Bill passed its third reading in Parliament.
The new powers will enable local authorities and the New Zealand Transport Agency to partner up to implement targeted charging schemes.
Research from Auckland's The Congestion Question project in 2020 found that an effective time of use charging scheme could reduce peak-time congestion to levels typically seen during school holidays.
